Also: if you have not yet seen the interview with Colin and Bradley GO WATCH IT RIGHT THE FUCK NOW THEN TRY NOT TO INJURE YOURSELF AS YOU FLAIL ALL OVER THE PLACE.

JFC YOU GUYS. I AM NOT GOING TO SURVIVE THIS.

Thanks to [info]gealach_ros for the screencaps and uploading the interview :D

Is there anything better than a freshly baked saffron bun? The other Christmas treats can go hang themselves - this one will always be my favourite. Store-bought obviously doesn't count, because they tend to contain more yellow food coloring than actual saffron.

If only I'd had a new 30 Rock episode to watch, I'd be in heaven right now, but alas, it appears to be on hiatus this week. I've already watched the season's first QI (with Stephen Fry looking slim and dapper) yesterday, and there's no Stargate for me to squee over either, so I'm at a loss here.

I bought new winter boots yesterday. My old ones were 8 years old and wouldn't have looked out of place on a hobo, *and* they gave me blisters, so this is pretty good news. Having cash is nice, but being able to walk longer than 500 meters without pain is even nicer.

ETA: This very NSFW (and kind of squicky, so beware) webcomic perfectly illustrates why knife-kink just doesn't do it for me. I'm incapable of *not* picturing that happening.

But this one is just funny.

IN CONCLUSION:

Okay, yes, the picture is not of the highest quality, but blame Android for not updating their settings for semi-dark.

First, thank you [info]syllic--the bears arrived! AND THEY ARE ADORABLE. And I am scared to touch them too much, as you know, adorable.

May I present the 2009 Collection of Christmas Bears in my ongoing quest to be the one reported in teh newspaper decades from now "She died, surrounded by bears. A lot of bears," while people interview children who call me "That crazy bear lady."

I'll do a full group picture of the entire collection when we unpack them this week. I am wondering if they will fit on teh sofa anymore.

I've got a new layout. :D I was quite fond of my old one, actually, but I really, really wanted a Merlin header, so there you go. Took me forever to find a header I liked, too (why are there not more of them?), and because it's b/w, it limits the options for background colours... I quite like it, but I don't know how long it'll take before the darkness of it will depress me. ;p

I nearly tore my hair out when I realised my entries/comment pages were also customised, then took about 45 minutes to find the 'Disable customized comment pages for your journal' option. *facepalms* FAQ, why are you not helpful?

Now if I could only figure out a way to make my journal title not show. You'd think deleting it would help, right? Or, I don't know, setting the colour to black? But apparently, that's too simple. ;p Oh, well.

Things I need to do this weekend - just listing them for me. )

Um. Will be back to my regular non-spammy self next week, I promise.

To whoever just bought me six months of Dreamwidth -- dude, you are rockin'. Thank you so much!

...And in other news, who wants to help me figure out a cool layout for this site? All the Dreamwidth ones still make me want to throw up in my own mouth.

I don't know if I am still in a food coma from too much Thanksgiving or just sleep deprived, but I can barely keep my eyes open right now. I am curled up on the couch in my pjs, waiting until it's late enough to go to sleep. It's 5:30 now - I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to last. Yes, this is my Friday night. What can I say? I'm a party girl.

ANYWAY. Important things:
  • Posting for [info]queenbitchfest started at the beginning of this week. The stories all feature Adam Lambert and are based on David Bowie songs. The fest was organized by the lovely and amazing [info]yeats, and posting will continue through tomorrow with author reveals on Sunday. There are some really fantastic fics over there so go check it out!
  • What is with Bradley and the state of Florida? First it was the Miami Dolphins, and then in the trailer for The Real Merlin and Arthur he is wearing a Florida State shirt. HEY BRADLEY, FLORIDA IS TOO HOT FOR YOUR ENGLISH BLOOD. COME TO PENNSYLVANIA INSTEAD :D
  • There is a Dropbox app for the iPhone and it is MY NEW FAVORITE THING EVER. Seriously. Today I was driving down the road listening to music in a folder on [info]derryere's computer. Or a folder that is... somewhere else. IDK. ALL I KNOW IS THAT I LOVE MODERN TECHNOLOGY.

I hope all of the Americans out there had an awesome Thanksgiving, and to everyone else, YAY FRIDAY, Y/Y?

Okay, so, day three of Adam Lambert is awesome, which--okay, the thing is, I have been reading AIRPS since like last year because well, that's what [info]astolat was writing and seriously, and what was I supposed to do, exert myself for entertainment? This is why I have an flist! To bring the entertainment to me!

Speaking of, quick rec from American Idol 7 RPS, and I say this with complete honesty, if you like to read, that's really all you need to read this one.

Real Forever If by [info]astolat, David Cook/David Archuleta. Okay, I want to give a concise explanation of why I love this, but it comes down to, I really, really liked the blend of reality with a single radical difference that's handled in stride, and this single radical difference is not only cool as shit, it's unbelievably hot and involves pseudo-collars. Just, and I do not say this lightly, read it, if for no other reason than to watch the seamless handling of worldbuilding through show, not tell. And because it is hot like burning.

Right, Adam.

i went shopping on Black Friday; of course I'm going to ramble and make no sense )

Speaking of, Easy YouTube Video Downloader 1.8 is pretty much perfect for all your download needs. 2.0, however, had 720p and 1020p HD and the HD is, to my eye, fantastic. I think the audio may not be as great, but I couldn't tell last night since I didn't have my headphones and laptop speakers aren't ideal. It won't, however, put the extension on when you download to HD, and that was a fun and frantic ten minutes tracking down the correct extension for importing to premiere (avc, btw), though it will play in avi just fine. It also does FLV, 3GP, MP3, and MP4, all of which I think are identical in quality to the original--at least, I didn't notice a glaring difference and my computer screen is HD. Again, I can't verify how the sound is--laptop speakers--but I have no real complaints so far. The interface will appear on the youtube video page beneath the URL link and imbed links, and you can pick which you want. HD downloads a lot slower, but MP4 can be done in under three minutes.

Seriously, if someone know about this and didn't tell me? I am going to be so put out.

J and I just pretty much finished our Christmas shopping. We made a serious dent in it last Saturday, and we were determined to get it pretty much done today, only it was rainy and grey and we started out rather cranky because we both HATE SHOPPING and didn't get on the road until after noon, and then by 3:45 we were HOME and POOR but we did not care because with the exception of a few little odds and ends, we are DONE AND IT IS NOT EVEN DECEMBER YET. \o/

The one odd bit of oddness: seeing this gem in a mall store window, because of course it's never too early for little girls to start learning their roles in life! (I know there's a picture of a boy there too, but he is only one of the four children pictured and he was not the child on the front of the box.) Considering that yesterday J and I were commenting on the fact that in many ways we are massively unsuccessful in sticking to our assigned gender roles, and that earlier I refused to make gendered choices for the Angel Tree girl and boy I was buying presents for, instead choosing matching gifts, this made us o.O even more.

(Also: we were passing by the store window of the local religious bookstore, in whose window there was this tome, and there was a slight pause as we both contemplated it.

J: Let's firebomb this place.

me *cracking up*: I love you SO MUCH.)

Hello all! I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. :) I have really been neglecting LJ recently, and also neglecting to comment on others' entries. It's silly - being unemployed, I definitely have plenty of time on my hands! I'm using my time to a) look for jobs, b) read, c) exercise, d) keep up with my French, and e) work on Spanish. As happy as I am to have time for these things, I'd still rather be employed, at least part time. For various reasons, I decided not to go back to Target. So I'm mainly looking for instructional assistant/tutor positions, but I am willing to do a lot of things except retail and going door-to-door soliciting donations and such. In spring I hope to start some classes toward getting a TESL certificate, which will hopefully make me more marketable here and abroad. Other news: my brother is going to grad school at the University of Sydney, so I obviously want to visit Australia in 2010. But I also want to visit Paris and my friends there! So....c'mon employment!

I also spend plenty of unproductive time putzing around the internets, so here are a lot of links! (By the way, I post many links and short updates on Facebook, so add me there! I will try not to repeat the same things here.)

- First of all, did you see that a couple of socialites/reality-TV wannabees crashed the Obamas' first state dinner? I think this is HILARIOUS. Since they went through appropriate security procedures, I don't think they could have been much danger to the president. So, only slightly worrisome, mostly hilarious.

- Did you know that MIT puts certain course materials online? I haven't used them yet, but I looked through the offerings and thought it might be useful for my brother, learning French, and me, hoping to learn the Japanese symbols!

- Voici a funny poem about learning English.

- I never get tired of the internet anagram server.

That's it for now! Happy Black Friday and happy start of the Christmas season.

Okay, so I'm writing fic (1st time in about 2 months, I do believe).

And I find myself with a slightly random question:-

In ST, when entering another person's quarter's, how do people signal that they are outside? Do they knock (that seems rather low tech)? Do they use an intercom?

I would watch my DVDs but I'm in the middle of an episode of Alias.

Yes, I'm lazy (or possibly just invested in Alias). Sue me :-)

Hey! A note to anyone interested in buying Christmas gifts from the xkcd store: the deadline for Christmas delivery of domestic orders is December 14th. We'll continue to ship after that, but won't guarantee by-Christmas delivery. (If you haven't been to the xkcd store lately, you might want to check it out. I've got some some new stuff there!)
